SUNDAY FUNDAY:Portland continues their 7‐game homestand with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field...The Sea Dogs are 3‐2 on the homestand, taking 2 of 3 from the Binghamton Mets and wrap up the 4‐game set with the Fisher Cats tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 PM...The Eastern League will break on Tuesday for 2 days due to the Eastern League All‐Star game in Trenton, New Jersey...The âDogs will play the Thunder on Thursday night at Waterfront Park, beginning a 9‐game roadtrip in 8 days.
NICE OUTING: RHP Adrian Martin (1‐1) earned his first Double‐A win, tossing six scoreless frames in New Hampshire's 4‐2 win over the Portland Sea Dogs on Saturday night at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs scored two unearned runs off the Fisher Cats bullpen in the late innings. Martin's only jam came in the third inning on consecutive singles by 2B Ryan Khoury and RF Reid Engel. The righty fanned 3B Iggy Suarez and CF Josh Reddick hit into a 4‐6‐3 double play. Martin yielded three hits, one walk and fanned four. DH Nick Gorneault (solo) and C Brian Jeroloman (3‐run) each homered off RHP Blake Maxwell, who suffered the loss.
PITCHING WINS: Portland's starters have compiled 3 wins and a 2.08 ERA (6 ER/26 IP) during the homestand...The Sea Dogs are 6‐6 in July but their 2.97 team ERA is third this month behind New Hampshire (2.92) and the Bowie Baysox (2.91)...Maxwell was perfect in 3 of 5 innings last night but allowed 4 runs over 5 IP on 6 hits. PORTLAND WAS HIS PLACE: RF Jason Place made his Double‐A debut with the Sea Dogs on Friday night and went 1‐for‐4 with a run‐scored...Place picked up a 2‐out, infield single in the eighth inning, which turned into Portland's second run on 3B Al Quintana's throwing error...Place was a first round pick by the Red Sox in the 2006 June Draft and the Gatorade High School Player of the Year.
AT LARGE: RHP T.J. Large was promoted to Triple‐A Pawtucket before today's game and RHP Ryne Miller was assigned from Single‐A Salem...RHP Ryne Lawson was assigned to Portland from the Lowell roster to make today's start.
AGAINST THE NORTH: Portland is 10‐9 during a 33‐game stretch against the Northern Division...The Sea Dogs start a 26‐game run against the South on July 27.
TOMORROW'S STARTERS: RHP Adam Mills will start the series finale against the Fisher Cats on Monday afternoon...Mills has won 4 of his last 5 starts, going 4‐2, 2.25 ERA (10 ER/40 IP)...RHP Kenny Rodriguez makes his 3rd start of the season for the Fisher Cats and his second against Portland.
