(Portland, ME) - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (41-48) used a 6-run first inning to beat the Portland Sea Dogs (42-46) 11-3 on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field. Portland has lost two straight games in the series and looks to split the 4-game set on Monday afternoon.
RHP Randy Boone (6-5) earned the win for New Hampshire, working 6 strong innings on 6 hits, 2 runs (one earned), one walk and tied a career-high with 9 strikeouts. RHP Ryne Lawson (1-8) took the loss for the Sea Dogs, yielding 8 hits and 8 runs over 3 IP.
New Hampshire sent 11 men to the plate in the first inning, collecting 4 doubles, 2 singles and two walks. 1B David Cooper (1-for-5, 2 RBI) knocked in the first 2 runs with a double to left-center field. CF Darrin Mastroianni (1-for-5, 2 RBI) laced a run-scoring single and C Al Quintana (3-for-5, 2 RBI, 3B, 2 2B) clocked an RBI double off the Maine Monster. 2B Brad Emaus delivered (1-for-2, 2 RBI, 3 BB) a 2-run single off Lawson in the third inning to put the visitors in front 8-0.
3B Jorge Jimenez (1-for-3, RBI) put the Sea Dogs on the board in the home half of the third inning with a 2-out RBI single, scoring CF Josh Reddick (0-for-4, RS).
RHP Chad Rhoades relieved Lawson in the fourth inning and surrendered three runs on three hits and two walks. RF Nick Gorneault (2-for-4, BB) walked and 3B Scott Campbell (2-for-5, 2 2B) doubled with Mastroianni knocking in the 9th run by grounding out. Quintana followed with a run-scoring triple to right field and DH Todd Donavan (1-for-3, RBI, 2 BB) drove in a run with a fielder's choice.
LF Ryan Kalish (3-for-5, HR, RBI, 2 RS) led off the sixth inning with a single and advanced to third base on 1B Lars Anderson's (2-for-3, BB) single to right field. C John Otness (1-for-4, RBI) looped an RBI single down the right-field line for Portland's second run. Kalish led off the eighth inning with a solo-homer over the wall in center field, his 3rd of the year and his first at Hadlock Field.
LHP Andrew Dobies hurled two scoreless frames of relief for the Sea Dogs, allowing two walks but fanned four. RHP Ryne Miller worked two perfect frames in his Double-A debut and fanned two.
The Sea Dogs wrap up their 4-game series with the Fisher Cats on Monday afternoon beginning at 12:00 PM. RHP Adam Mills (5-5, 5.47) will make his 16th start of the season against RHP Kenny Rodriguez (1-1, 6.17).
