
Sea Dogs Blast 5 Home Runs in 12-5 Win

Portland, Maine- Fog may have interrupted Wednesday night's game but the Sea Dogs offense had the Sea Dogs' lighthouse working overtime on Thursday afternoon as the Sea Dogs blasted five home runs defeating the Binghamton Mets 12-5. It was the third straight win for the Sea Dogs who improve to 8-9 on the season, Binghamton drops to 6-11.
The Sea Dogs offense continued to impress putting up double digit hits (14) for the fifth consecutive game as the Sea Dogs continue to lead the Eastern League with a .296 average.
Will Middlebrooks, 3-for-4 with 3 RBI, smashed two home runs and now leads the team with four. Alex Hassan, Ryan Lavarnway, Tim Federowicz also homered for Portland as they collected a season high five home runs.
Hassan continues his torrid start to the season with a 3-for-5 performance with two RBI. He leads the league in hitting with a .439 average.
The Portland offense picked-up right where they left-off from last night picking-up three quick runs in the first inning highlighted by a Will Vazquez two run double as the Sea Dogs jumped out to 3-1 lead after one inning of play.
The Sea Dogs exploded for five runs in the fifth as they batted around for the second time in as many days. The inning was highlighted by two run homers from both Hassan, his first of the year, and Lavarnway, his third of the season. Oscar Tejeda would chip-in with a RBI double as Portland took a commanding 9-1 lead.
Meanwhile, Alex Wilson (3-1) held the Mets to one run on five hits in five innings of work to earn the win. He walked one and recorded five strikeouts.
Federowicz blasted his third home run of the season, a solo shot in the fifth. Middlebrooks added his third of the season, a solo blast in the sixth and his team leading fourth in the eighth.
Binghamton added three runs in the seventh off Eammon Portice highlighted by a Brahiam Maldonado two run single scoring Josh Satin and Jose Coronado.
Binghamton starter Robert Carson (1-3) suffered the loss lasting three innings surrendering eight runs (five earned) on seven hits.
The Sea Dogs head out on a seven game road trip with stops in Reading, Pennsylvania and Trenton, New Jersey. The road trip kicks-off with a 7:05 PM game against the Reading Phillies Friday night. Right-handed pitcher Stolmy Pimentel (0-2, 8.03) gets the start for Portland. Righty J.C. Ramirez (3-0, 1.33) gets the nod for the Phillies. The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field for a three game series against the New Britain Rock cats on Friday, May 6th at 6:00 PM.
