Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
A night after a 13-1 drubbing by the El Paso Diablos, the Sioux Falls Pheasants returned the favor with a 14-2 victory to even a four-game series, the last of the year.
Rod Scurry (6-7) earned a complete game win, his first as a professional, on just seven hits in his final appearance of 2012. He allowed just three hits through the first six innings and did not give up a run until the seventh.
Scurry has strung together four dominant starts to finish the year's campaign, going 3-1 with a 1.74 ERA. His only loss was a 2-1 defeat by Sioux City on August 26.
Cesar Nicolas opened the Pheasants scoring with a two-out, RBI single in the top of the first. The Birds scored in each of the first four innings and ran the lead to 7-0, chasing El Paso starter Reyes Dorado (1-5) from the game.
Dorado gave up all seven runs on 11 hits. He walked three and struck out none.
In the seventh inning, the Pheasants piled on seven runs, all with two outs. The Birds sent 11 men to the plate and had six consecutive hits after a two-out walk by Nick Judkins.
The Pheasants offense pounded out 20 hits total, and all but one hitter had at least two hits. Cristian Guerrero was 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI, and Jake Taylor was 3-for-5 with two RBI.
El Paso finally mustered single tallies in the seventh and ninth innings.
Game three of the four-game series is at 7:05 p.m. on Sunday, September 2. The contest will be broadcast on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN and www.kwsn.com.
