WICHITA, KS- Wingnuts' right-handed pitcher Josh Lowey, second baseman Jake Kahaulelio, and shortstop Ryan Khoury were voted to the American Association's Postseason All-Star Team on Saturday.
Lowey earned American Association Pitcher of the Year honors, and features a 15-4 record with a 3.57 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 133.2 innings pitched. The right-hander set an American Association single-season record with his 15th win on August 27th versus El Paso in the opener of a double header. Lowey tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout which helped the Wingnuts clinch the Central Division title. A native of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Lowey ranks first in the league in wins, 10th in ERA, and 10th in strikeouts. Earlier this season, Lowey completed a 19-game winning streak that dated back to 2011 while pitching for the Frontier League's River City Rascals.
Kahaulelio leads the American Association with a .367 batting average and was named the league's all-star second baseman. With two games left in the regular season, Kahaulelio has an eight-point lead over Grand Prairie's Brian Myrow and a 10-point lead over Amarillo's Adam Buschini. The Petaluma, CA native has scored 57 runs in 57 games with 19 doubles, five home runs, 38 RBI, and 10 stolen bases. The 27-year-old Kahaulelio is hitting a remarkable .491 with runners in scoring position this season.
Khoury takes home American Association Defensive Player of the Year. Khoury is the only Wingnuts player to appear in all 98 of the team's games this season. The 28-year-old Khoury has started every game at shortstop and in the leadoff spot in Wichita's batting order. The Salt Lake City, UT native has committed just 12 errors while featuring a .972 fielding percentage. At the plate, Khoury has a .366 on-base percentage, and ranks in the top-four in the American Association in runs scored (78), stolen bases (35), and walks (59).
