
Laredo Lemurs Clinch South Division Title

Gary, IN - The Laredo Lemurs scored two runs in the top of the ninth to take a one run lead and win the game 6-5 and the American Association South Division Championship on Sunday afternoon, in Gary, Indiana.
The Lemurs took an early lead in the game scoring a run in the first, but the the RailCats roared back and put up three runs in the bottom of the first for a 3-1 lead after one.
The RailCats would score another run in the third and another in the fourth to put them up 5-1 after four complete.
In the fifth the Lemurs would show some life, with one out, Anthony Scelfo reached on a single and stole second base to get into scoring position. Then with two outs, Jimmy Mojica launched a pitch over the left field wall to put the Lemurs behind 5- 3.
The Lemurs bullpen would shut down the RailCats from the fifth inning till the end of the game. Mark Haynes pitched the seventh and the eighth and put the side down in order both times as he went on to earn the win for the Lemurs.
With the Lemurs down 5-4 they came to the plate in the top of the ninth. Brian Peterson opened up the inning with a base hit. Peterson was taken out for pinch runner Philip Incaviglia. Incaviglia stole second base and with one out Anthony Scelfo came to the plate. Scelfo doubled down the left field line to bring in the tying run with a runner at second. Stephen Douglas hit next, singling into the gap to bring home Scelfo from second base to take a 6-5 lead.
Lemurs closer Mike Benacka put a scare into everyone in the bottom of the ninth as he walked the bases loaded, but struck out the last two batters to lock down the Lemurs win and his 12th save of the year.
The Lemurs will wrap up their series and the regular season tomorrow against the Gary Southshore RailCats then come home to take on the Wichita Wingnuts for the American Association Semi-Finals.
