Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

While the Winnipeg Goldeyes were still celebrating their wild card playoff spot, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks let their bats do the talking.

Sunday afternoon at Shaw Park, one day after the Goldeyes wrapped up the American Association wild card playoff spot, the RedHawks pounded out 17 hits and whipped the Fish 15-1.

Essentially, the game didn't matter. Regardless of what happened on Sunday, these two teams will open the American Association semifinal series on Wednesday night in Fargo. Game 2 will be played Thursday in Fargo and Games 3, 4 (if necessary) and 5 (if necessary) will be played in Winnipeg next Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Sunday's win started with their starter as Fargo's young Ethan Opsahl pitched 7.1 innings and allowed only one run on eight scattered hits.

Fargo scored four in the third and three in fifth off Goldeyes starter Todd Privett and then added three against Chris Allen in the sixth, one against Jack Van Leur in the seventh and four against Chris Bodishbaugh in the ninth.

Eric Campbell led the Fargo attack with a two-run homer and three runs batted in. Nic Jackson went three-for-six with run scored and two RBI and Zach Penprase had three hits in six trips with four runs scored and two driven in.

Winnipeg's only run came in the sixth when Josh Mazzola led off with a double and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Mike Coles.

Privett (5-7, 4.26 ERA) suffered the loss for Winnipeg while Opsahl (1-0, 1.86 ERA) earned the victory for Fargo.

The Goldeyes and RedHawks will play the final game of this three-game series - and the final game of the 2012 regular season -- on Monday night. Denver Wynn will start for Winnipeg while Jake Laber goes for Fargo.
