NYPL Mahoning Valley Scrappers

Scrappers Stumble in Bid for .500

August 6, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

The Scrappers (21-23) and Muckdogs (18-26) entered Thursday night's game in a series tied at three. A win for the Scrappers would not only give them the series lead, but it would put them at .500 for the first time since the end of June.

It didn't happen, as the Scrappers came up short in the first game of three against the Muckdogs. Mahoning Valley scored two in the second, but that would be it. Alexis Pantoja hit an RBI single to score Mark Mathias. Later in the inning, Jack Goihl singled to right to score Pantoja. That would be all the scoring for Mahoning Valley.

In the top of the sixth, Stone Garrett hit his eighth home run of the year, which was a liner into the left field bullpen. It was a two-run shot to tie the game.

In the next inning, Batavia scored four. Pantoja and Silento Sayles committed errors in the inning, and the two batters to reach base on those errors later scored.

This was a costly game in terms of the errors. The Scrappers are 9-11 when they have two or more errors in a game. Besides the errors, the two-run home run for Garrett was costly.

Nick White (2-3) earned the win. He pitched two scoreless and hitless innings. Shao-Ching Chiang (3-2) earned the loss after allowing two earned runs in six innings.

Casey Shane and Justin Jacome square off in the middle game of this three-game series on Friday night at 7:05.
