Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Williamsport Crosscutters scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the first inning against the Auburn Doubledays on Thursday night and would not look back. Williamsport received six scoreless innings from starter Mitch Gueller as he moves to 6-1 on the season. The Cutters remain in first place in the Pinckney Division and also hold onto the best record in the New York Penn League.

The Crosscutters offense got into gear early against Auburn starter Taylor Hearn by scoring a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead. Mark Laird picked up a one out single to give the Cutters their first base runner of the game. Josh Tobias followed with a ground rule double into right field. Jose Pujols would score Laird with an RBI single and Tobias on a fielder's choice ground out from Jesus Posso.

Williamsport would add to their lead in top of the sixth inning. Tobias kicked off the inning with his second ground rule double of the game. Pujols would bring him in with his second triple of the season to make it 3-0. Posso would follow with a bloop RBI single into left field to give the Cutters a 4-0 lead. The offense would be plenty on the night for Gueller who picked up four strikeouts on the night while getting some help from his defense.

The Doubledays did put together a rally in the late innings against the Cutters bullpen scoring twice in the seventh inning and once in the eighth inning. Leading 5-3 Rob Tasin would close the door against Auburn in the ninth inning. Tasin picked up three consecutive groundouts to earn his ninth save of the season and pull within one of the lead leader. The six wins currently give Gueller the most amongst other qualifying pitchers in the league.
