
Aberdeen Falls to Tri-City in Series Opener

The IronBirds fell to the Tri -City Valleycats, 5-0 Thursday night in the first game of a three game series. Kevin McCanna, Ralph Garza, and Zac Person combined to no-hit Aberdeen.
First Inning Plague
Tri-City's Johnny Sewald scored the Valleycats first run on Aaron Mizell's groundout to second in the first inning. Later in the first, a double from Pat Porter made the score 3-0 when he pushed teammates Hector Roa and Dexture McCall over the plate with an RBI double. Catcher Anthony Hermelyn followed with an RBI single, knocking in Porter from third base to extend the lead to four.
The Wild, Wild, Wild, Aberdeen
In the second inning, Johnny Sewald scored for the second time of the night when Aberdeen pitcher Patrick Baker's pitch went to the backstop. This would be the Valleycats fifth, and final run of the night.
No! No!
Three pitchers combined to no-hit the IronBirds on Thursday night. Kevin McCanna pitched the first four innings, striking out five, walking one and allowed another to reach on an error. Ralph Garza took over in the fifth, tossing the next four, striking out seven. Zac Person took over in the ninth and set down the IronBirds in order to complete the feat.
Birdwatching
The IronBirds had only two baserunners on Wednesday... Glynn Davis reached on an error in the first and Drew Turbin walked in the third... After the third, the Valley Cats set down 20 in a row... It's the first time the IronBirds have been no-hit since August 23, 2009... Brooklyn's Brandon Moore walked three in a seven-inning no-hitter on Cooney Island.
