Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

NILES, Ohio- The Scrappers had to know it was bound to happen. Caleb Hamrick had been so good to start the year that he was bound to hit a bump in the road. The bump came on Friday night in Williamsport, as the Crosscutters out slugged the Scrappers, 10-5.

Hamrick started the game the right way. He retired the side in order in the bottom of the 1st inning. The 2nd inning was not as easy. A 1 out single by Logan Pierce put Williamsport up 1-0. A throwing error with 2 outs allowed 2 more runs to score to put the Crosscutters up 3-1 after 2 innings. The inning that doomed the Scrappers was the 3rd. Williamsport blasted two 2 run homers as Dylan Cozens and Gabriel Lino each connected to push the score out to 7-3.

The offense tried to keep pace. Juan Herrera doubled home Claudio Bautista in the 1st inning for the early lead. After falling behind 7-3, the Scrappers were able to cut the deficit down to 7-4 in the 5th inning. Robel Garcia led off the inning with a single. Herrera was then hit by a pitch. Nellie Rodriguez and James Roberts then each delivered runs scoring singles to cut the game to 3 runs. It was as close as the Scrappers would get.

The Scrappers will face Williamsport again tomorrow for the second of three between the two teams. The road trip will then continue to Jamestown before the Scrappers return home on July 4th. Call the Scrappers box office at 330-505-0000 to get your tickets.
