Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Get out the brooms
After falling behind last night by scores of 2-0, 3-1, and 5-1, the Aberdeen IronBirds used a five run fifth inning to take a 6-5 lead. They would tack on an insurance run in the eighth inning, and earned a 7-5 win. The win gave the IronBirds a two game sweep of the Cyclones, dropping Brooklyn into last place in the McNamara Division. The IronBirds are now 3-2 against the Cyclones so far this season.
Vader gets the win
RHP Sebastian Vader toughed out five innings in last night's game. He allowed eight hits, five runs (four earned), and walked two. He walked the Cyclones' Jared King with two outs in the third inning. It was the first walk of the season for Vader, snapping a streak of 15.2 innings without a walk. Vader left after the fifth, and it was in the bottom of the inning that the Aberdeen bats exploded. Jimmy Yacabonis got credit for his first professional save last night after saving ten games for St. Joseph's University (PA) this season.
Brooklyn Blues
The two runs the Cyclones scored in the first inning last night snapped a 17 inning drought. Brooklyn scored five runs in the first inning of Tuesday's game, and that was the last time they crossed the plate until the first inning last night. After last night's loss, Brooklyn has now lost three in a row. They will return to Ripken Stadium next week- July 4th through the 6th.
On the mound tonight...
Tonight, the IronBirds will send out RHP Janser Severino in the first game of the three game set with the Staten Island Yankees. Severino last appeared in Sunday's 10-4 IronBirds win against the Yankees in Staten Island. He went three innings in relief, allowing just one hit, walking two, and striking out three. He will be opposed by the Yankees' Caleb Smith. Smith's only appearance on the season also came in last Sunday's game agains the IronBirds. He pitched two innings of relief, allowing two hits, two runs (both earned), and striking out two.
On the Road again
After Sunday's series finale with the Staten Island Yankees, the IronBirds will hit the road for three games against the division-leading Hudson Valley Renegades. The IronBirds will return home and begin a three game home stand against the Brooklyn Cyclones on July 4th.
