FISHKILL, NY - Don Kohler, of the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau will be inducted into the Professional Scouts Hall of Fame (SHOF) on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Dutchess Stadium. Kohler will join the prestigious group of individuals who have embraced the scouting profession with great honor and success throughout their careers.
Kohler, who enters his 28th year with the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau, began his scouting career in 1980 with the Indians as an Associate Scout. From 1982-1985, Kohler joined the Brewers organization as a full-time scout. In the fall of 1985, the Major League Scouting Bureau hired Kohler as a Supervisor/Crosschecker covering the Northeast and later, the Mid-Atlantic region. Today, Kohler remains with the Major League Scouting Bureau as an area scout covering the New York (west of the Hudson River,) New Jersey and Delaware area.
"The honor of inducting scouts that have given their lives to this profession and the game of baseball remains a tremendous privilege," said Tyler Tumminia, Senior Vice President of The Goldklang Group. "Over the past six years, the SHOF has transformed from an idea into an initiative that is widely lauded within the industry. We are proud to continue this tradition of celebrating the careers of these deserving and distinguished scouts."
Criteria for induction includes a minimum of 20 years of pro scouting experience, with selection based on a combination of quantifiable success in the field, contributions made to the game in other areas of the sport whether professional or amateur, and importantly, their involvement and dedication to the local community that is honoring them through induction.
Kohler will be inducted into the Scouts Hall of Fame Sunday, June 30, 2013 prior to the Hudson Valley Renegades home game versus the Brooklyn Cyclones. The ceremony will begin at 11:15am in front of the Mid-Hudson Subaru Scouts Hall of Fame wall located at the entrance of Dutchess Stadium.
