Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

STATEN ISLAND, NY (June 27, 2013) - So far, the Hudson Valley Renegades seem to enjoy playing on the road. Carrying a 5-1 record away from Dutchess Stadium into Thursday night's game in Staten Island, the offense was despondent one night earlier in a 7-3 extra-inning home loss to the Yanks. But a big first inning set the tone for the remainder of the evening, as well as a memorable game for rookie third baseman Ty Young.

Facing Yankees starter Giovanny Gallegos was no picnic just a few days earlier, but the Renegades feasted from the outset. Julian Ridings began the ballgame with a double before stealing third base. Patrick Blair grounded out to third baseman Hector Crespo, who tagged Ridings for the first out. Johnny Field then doubled Blair to third, allowing Oscar Hernandez to single home the game's first run. On a 3-2 pitch just moments later, Young squared up and belted his first career home run over the wall in right to give the 'Gades a 4-0 lead.

Staten Island added a run in the home second to make it 5-1 after Hudson Valley scored in the top half thanks to a John Murphy error at short. The third inning was a completely different story as the Yankees sent ten men to the plate and scored six runs on seven two out hits, including six RBI singles in a row. In a game completely controlled by the offenses, the Renegades had squandered a 5-0 lead and came to bat in the fourth trailing 7-5.

After two straight singles by James Harris and Julian Morillo to start the inning, Gallegos was replaced by Andrew Benak (0-1). A four pitch walk to Ridings loaded the bases with nobody out before Blair struck out. Field then lifted a deep fly ball to left that scored Harris to make it 7-6. Hernandez came through in the clutch again with a two-run double to retake the lead at 8-7. And Young provided the biggest blow of the game, just a night after finishing 0-for-5 with a pair of strikeouts in his professional debut. The lefty went the other way and lined a home run over the wall in left for his second longball in just his second game to give the Renegades a 10-7 lead.

The Yankees added another run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Mike O'Neill to make it 10-8, but Harrison (3-0) would shut them down after that. He'd retire nine of the last ten hitters he'd face, racking up five strikeouts along the way. Neither team would score after the fourth, and the game would get called during the top of the seventh inning shortly after the tarp was pulled on the field.

NOTES: Hernandez had his fourth multi-hit game in the last five...his seven game hitting streak ties Ariel Soriano for the team lead this season...Young's two home runs give him the team lead and his five RBIs are a new single-game high.

The Renegades return home to Dutchess Stadium for a pair of weekend games against the division rival Brooklyn Cyclones. Great seats are still available for the games at 7:05 Friday night and 1:05 Sunday afternoon. Come on down to The Dutch for fun and fireworks after Friday night's game for the perfect way to start your weekend. Call 845-838-0094 or visit www.hvrenegades.com to purchase your tickets now.
