Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Williamsport Crosscutters fell short for the first time in the 2015 season on Tuesday night in Mahoning Valley by a score of 2-1. The Crosscutters set a New York Penn League record for consecutive wins to start a season dating back to 2005 with Hudson Valley winning their first six games to start the 2013season.

Gregori Rivero hit two doubles on the night against Mahoning Valley starter Shao-Ching Chiang in the third and fifth innings. Rivero would score the Cutters only run of the night in the top of the third inning scoring from third base after a wild pitch eluded Scrappers catcher Li-Jen Chu to make it a 2-1 game. Luis Morales took his first loss of the season in his second for Williamsport. The Crosscutters got six innings out of Morales before Pat Borders made a call to the bullpen. Morales allowed six hits while surrendering two earned runs and striking out two batters.

The Cutters would trail early as Mahoning scored two runs in the second inning. Willi Castro delivered the big hit with a two out two RBI double that at the time gave the Scrappers a 2-0 lead. Williamsport finished the game with four hits, marking their lowest total in that category this season. Venn Biter extended his team leading hit streak to nine games with a single in the first inning. Biter would finish the night 1 for 4.

Shao-Ching Chiang picked up his second win of the season for the Scrappers. Tyler Gilbert worked 1 2/3 scoreless innings in his professional debut out of the bullpen for the Cutters. Andrew Godail also tossed 1 1/3 scoreless inning for the Cutters.
