Hudson Valley Falls in Series Finale to West Virginia

Granville, WV (6/30/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the West Virginia Black Bears by a score of 6-4 on Tuesday evening at Monongalia County Ballpark. Hudson Valley drops to 6-5 on the season while West Virginia improves to 5-6.

Bad weather delayed the start of the game by an hour and nineteen minutes but when the contest got under way, Hudson Valley and West Virginia each scored a run in the first inning. Renegades right fielder Cade Gotta had a two-out RBI walk and the Black Bears right fielder Logan Hill responded with an RBI double to bring the score to 1-1.

West Virginia took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning as Hill hit his second RBI single of the night, scoring left fielder Ty Moore. The Black Bears extended their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth as second baseman Kevin Kramer singled and advanced to second on a fielding error, allowing third baseman Mitchell Tolman to score. That ended the night for Renegades starting pitcher Angel Yepez, who allowed three runs and two earned runs in four and a third innings pitched.

Hudson Valley picked up three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead at 4-3. Gotta led off the inning with a single, stole second base and scored on an RBI double by third baseman Alex Schmidt. Catcher Taylor Hawkins reached on a fielding error and after a fly ball moved Schmidt to third, Hawkins stole second and after West Virginia's catcher Christian Kelley committed a throwing error, Schmidt came across with the tying run. Two batters later, center fielder Jose Paez laid down a bunt single to give the 'Gades the one run lead.

The Black Bears quickly tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI ground out by Moore. After a scoreless top of the eighth inning, West Virginia scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI sacrifice fly by Kelley and Tolman reached on an error, scoring designated hitter Daniel Arribas.

Eric Dorsch (1-0) picked up the win for West Virginia after throwing two scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Diego Castillo (0-1) took the loss for the Renegades, giving up two un-earned runs in an inning and a third of work out of the bullpen. Julio Eusebio earned the save for the Black Bears, tossing a clean top of the ninth inning.

Notes: With Gotta's single in the top of the sixth inning, the Renegades outfielder improved his hitting streak to seven games, which is the longest hitting streak for any Renegade player this season. During that seven game stretch, Gotta is 10-24 (.416) with three runs scored and three RBI.

Hudson Valley returns home on Wednesday, July 1 as they host the Brooklyn Cyclones at 7:05pm. Wednesday evening is "American Road Trip Night" at Dutchess Stadium.
