Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
AUBURN, NY - June 29, 2015 - Although the Cyclones had hoped for a series sweep, Brooklyn was edged by Auburn in a pitcher's duel, falling to the Renegades by a final score of 3-2. While right-hander Kevin Canelon made the start for Brooklyn and put in 5.0 innings of work, Jose Celas took the loss for the Cyclones after walking four Renegades through 2.0 innings and surrendering the game-winning run.
The Cyclones began the game with an early offensive rally. After a single from Vinny Siena, the second baseman advanced to third on a throwing error Auburn's catcher Jorge Tilero. After southpaw McKenzie Mills sent Michael Bernal walking, a double by David Thompson brought Siena home and Bernal to third. The outfielder scored following a sacrifice fly by Brandon Brosher which would tack on Cyclones' the final run of the inning, and the game, as Brooklyn took a 2-0.
Auburn was quick to counter this early deficit as the Renegades notched their first run of the game in the bottom of the first. After Canelon walked Dalton Dulin, the Renegade made his way home after a double and a single from the next pair of Auburn batters, shrinking Brooklyn's lead to 2-1.
The Renegades' offense kept it up through the second. With two outs, Canelon walked another batter who stole second and scored following a line drive single to right field. Tied at 2-2, the teams would match zeroes until the sixth inning. With Celas in from the bullpen, a pair of singles and a fielding error by center fielder Enmanuel Zabala gave way to the Renegades' next and final run of the game. Auburn would maintain a 3-2 lead over the Brooklyn for the remainder of the game.
The Cyclones see action again tomorrow evening at 7:05 PM as they kick off a three-game series against the Hudson Valley Renegades with right-hander Tyler Badamo (0-1) taking the mound for Brooklyn. The team will then return to MCU Park on Thursday for Back to the Future Night at the ballpark. The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a 1.21 GigaWatts Jersey courtesy of Pepsi. Tickets, which start at just $10, are on sale now at the MCU Park Box Office, by calling 718-507-TIXX, or right here at BrooklynCyclones.com.
