Scoville Recalled By Columbus

Syracuse, NY (April 2, 2004) – The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled defenseman Darrel Scoville. The team also announced that they have released defenseman Brian Van Abel from his amateur try-out agreement.

Scoville, 28, appeared in 66 games with Syracuse this season, recording 10 goals, 32 assists and 69 penalty minutes. In six games with Columbus this season, Scoville has recorded one assist, his first NHL point, on February 28 vs. Colorado. In 342 career AHL games with Saint John and Syracuse, Scoville has 46 goals, 121 assists and 446 penalty minutes. A native of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Scoville was signed as a free agent by Columbus on July 10, 2001.

Van Abel, 23, appeared in 127 games with Dartmouth (ECAC) over the past four seasons, tallying 5 goals, 17 assists and 58 penalty minutes. A native of Lino Lakes, Minnesota, Van Abel did not appear in any games with Syracuse.

The Crunch travel to Rochester tonight for a 7:35 p.m. game.
