IceCats' Glumac named AHL Rookie of the Month
Published on April 2, 2004 under American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Worcester IceCats right wing Mike Glumac has been named the AHL Rookie of the Month for March. In 13 games, Glumac recorded seven goals and seven assists for 14 points, including a 10-game scoring streak that is the longest by an AHL rookie this season.
Glumac was held scoreless on Mar. 3, but proceeded to find the scoresheet in each of the next 10 contests, beginning with an assist on Mar. 6 vs. Hershey. Included in the run was a stretch of four straight games with a goal, highlighted by his two-goal effort on Mar. 14 at Providence and a three-point performance on Mar. 17 vs. Houston. Glumac scored four power play goals in March, matching his total from the first five months combined, and sparked the IceCats' offense as Worcester went 8-3-1-1 in March.
In recognition of his accomplishment, Glumac will be presented with an etched crystal trophy by the AHL prior to an upcoming game.
Glumac, who turns 24 next week, spent four seasons at Miami University in Ohio before turning pro last season. In his first full AHL campaign, the native of Niagara Falls, Ont., is tied for third in the league's rookie scoring race with 48 points this season and tied for second among first-year players with 25 goals. Glumac is one of two IceCats to have appeared in all 73 of the team's games so far this season.
Other nominees for AHL Rookie of the Month for March include Bridgeport defenseman Cole Jarrett, Cincinnati center Joel Perrault, Cleveland center Grant Stevenson, Hamilton right wing Alexander Perezhogin, Houston right wing Matt Foy, Lowell center Jim Henkel, Manchester left wing Noah Clarke, San Antonio center Petr Taticek, Springfield goaltender David LeNeveu, St. John's center Kyle Wellwood, Syracuse left wing Shawn Limpright, Toronto defenseman Doug Lynch and Utah goaltender Dan Ellis.
