
Schnell Recalled, Wild, Rust, Chupp, & Samuelsson Reassigned

WHEELING, WV. -The Wheeling Nailers, the ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, announced today that Cody Chupp and Matt Rust and defenseman Cody Wild have been loaned to the team and defenseman Philip Samuelsson has been assigned to the Nailers by the Pittsburgh Penguins. In addition forward Ryan Schnell has been recalled to the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins and goalie Nick Niedert has been signed.
Chupp has registered a goal and four assists in 15 games with the Penguins this season. The Big Rapids, MI native has also recorded 14 goals, 15 assists and 12 penalty minutes in 35 games for the Nailers. A second-year pro, Chupp appeared in 58 matches with the Texas Stars in 2010-11, registering five goals and eight assists.
Wild, 24, has chipped in five assists in 42 games this season for the Penguins. A fourth-year pro out of Providence College, Wild has appeared in 169 AHL contests with Springfield, Providence and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and compiled 41 points (5g-36a).
Rust has posted four goals and seven assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton over 36 games. Currently in his rookie season after completing a four-year career at the University of Michigan, Rust has also skated in two contests with the Wheeling Nailers this year.
Samuelsson is also in his first year of professional hockey after skating two seasons with Boston College. The 20-year-old native of Leksand, Sweden earned an NCAA Championship in 2010 during his freshman year with Eagles. He has appeared in 41 games this season for the Penguins, netting a goal and seven assists.
Niedert has appeared in five games this season posting a .898 save percentage. The Hudson Iowa native has appeared in three games with the Elmira Jackals and two games with the Trenton Titans of the ECHL.
The Nailers will continue their road trip on Wednesday night at 7:05, when they battle the Elmira Jackals at First Arena.
