
Stingrays Power Past Gladiators 5-2

Duluth, GA - The South Carolina Stingrays (32-22-3-1) extended their unbeaten streak to four games with a 5-2 victory over the Gwinnett Gladiators (30-17-7-4) Wednesday night at The Arena at Gwinnett Center.
The Stingrays erupted for three goals in the opening period to take a 3-0 into the first intermission. Forward Chris Higgins kicked off the scoring at 8:01 beating Gladiators goaltender Joe Palmer (L, 18 saves on 23 shots) from the top of the goal crease. Forwards Trent Campbell and Pierre-Luc O'Brien grabbed assists. At 10:36, former Gladiator Mike Hamilton blasted home a shorthanded marker from O'Brien. Moments later, O'Brien found the twine from Campbell and Higgins at 15:10.
Defenseman Zach Tarkir made it a four-goal Stingrays lead at 9:21 of the second period with help from defenseman Brett Flemming and forward Matt Scherer.
The Gladiators jumped on the board on the power play at 2:50 of the final frame when forward Tyler Murovich slipped a shot over the glove of Stingrays goaltender Philipp Grubauer (W, 23 saves on 25 shots) from the top of the crease. Forwards Bryan Brutlang and Pat Galivan added assists. The Stingrays made it 5-1 on a tally from defenseman Johann Kroll at 5:44 with help from Scherer and defenseman Dustin Stevenson. After the goal, Palmer would be replaced by keeper Ryan Zapolski (3 saves on 3 shots). Gladiators defenseman Tyler Kindle completed the game scoring at 15:55 with help from former Stingray Justin Milo.
The Stingrays continue a three-game road trip Friday, March 2 against the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:35 p.m. at the Bi-Lo Center. Tuesday, March 6 is 2-for-1 Ticket Night with the Stingrays!
