Reign Pick up Aeros Defender

ONTARIO, Calif.- The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, have announced today the addition of Benn Olson to the team's roster.

Olson, 24, joins the Reign from the AHL's Houston Aeros where he played just one game. Prior to the Aeros, Olson played in the ECHL with the Alaska Aces for 11 games where he recorded a plus-minus rating of -2. At the beginning of the 2011-12 season, the defenseman was on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers' line-up for a total of 17 games in which he tallied his first AHL goal, and a plus-minus rating of +3.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder spent his 2010-11 season playing between the ECHL and the AHL with the Cincinnati Cyclones, the Milwaukee Admirals and Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He skated in 17 games with Bridgeport recording three assists and 78 penalty minutes. He appeared in one game with Milwaukee. In 43 games with the Cyclones, he picked up four points (1g,3a) and 153 penalty minutes.

During the 2009-10 season, Olson again saw time between leagues. He played in nine games for the Albany River Rats (AHL) and 50 games with the Florida Everblades (ECHL), in addition to four Kelly Cup Playoff games. The Port McNeil, British Columbia native made his professional debut with the AHL Albany River Rats in 2008 where he earned four points (4a) in 36 games.

As a junior, Olson played for the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL for two seasons recording 102 penalty minutes in 49 games. From 2005-08 the defender played for the Seattle Thunderbirds recording 29 points (3g, 26a) in 195 games. During his final season of junior hockey, Olson earned a career-high +31 rating and career-high 266 penalty minutes.

Olson is expected to play in tonight's game against the Utah Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m.
