Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

ABERDEEN, Md. - Matt Sauer delivered another dominant start as the Hudson Valley Renegades faced the minimum 27 batters in a 7-0 win over the Aberdeen IronBirds on Wednesday night at Leidos Field.

The right-hander fired seven shutout innings, allowing only one hit, walking one and striking out six. Sauer (3-1) lasted 7.0-or-more innings for the second time in three starts and has allowed only two earned runs over that span (19.1 IP).

Hudson Valley scored early and often against Aberdeen starter Jose Tavera (1-2). Everson Pereira launched a solo homer in the top of the first to give the Renegades a 1-0 lead. It was the second home run of the season for Pereira, and his first since April 12.

In the top of the second, the Renegades plated five to break the game open. Aaron Palensky knocked an RBI single, Cooper Bowman slammed a two-run double, and Trey Sweeney followed with a two-run homer to extend the lead to 6-0. Sweeney was a key catalyst for the Renegades offensively, finishing 3-for-5 with a run scored a home run and two RBIs.

The following frame, Hudson Valley jumped ahead 7-0 on a Carlos Narvaez groundout, scoring Anthony Seigler from third. Seigler had a strong night at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with a run scored.

Tanner Myatt shut the door, tossing two innings of hitless ball, walking two and striking out none. Despite four baserunners throughout the game, Hudson Valley pitchers faced the minimum in the contest thanks to three double plays and a pickoff.

The IronBirds got their lone hit in the game when Connor Norby lined a single to left to lead off the seventh inning against Sauer. That brought an end to a run of 10.2 hitless innings thrown by Renegades pitchers dating back to Tuesday's series opener.

Hudson Valley continues its six-game series with Aberdeen tomorrow night at Leidos Field. RHP Beck Way (2-2, 6.41) toes the rubber for the Renegades, while the IronBirds counter with RHP Ignacio Feliz (3-0, 5.16). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage begins on the Renegades Baseball Network at 6:45.
