OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - The Santa Cruz Warriors (4-4) fall to the Oklahoma City Blue (4-4) Saturday night, 117-113. Santa Cruz came within two points with 2:30 to go in regulation but were unsuccessful in the comeback.
Santa Cruz found themselves down by as many as 14 points in the first quarter but were able to tie the game with 6:03 left in the second quarter. The Blue, however, finished the half on a 20-8 run to go into halftime leading, 63-51.
Despite the Warriors cutting the halftime deficit to seven points early in the third quarter, Blue guard Rob Edwards made a three at the end of the third to keep their halftime lead of 12 points into the final frame, 88-76. A three by two-way guard Quinndary Weatherspoon brought the Warriors within two points with 2:30 left in regulation, 109-107, but the Warriors were unable to close the gap and are now 4-4 in the regular season.
Santa Cruz was led by Weatherspoon with 25 points in 34 minutes, followed closely behind by forward LJ Figueroa with 24 points and a team-high 15 rebounds. Guard Ryan Taylor added 15 points off the bench.
Blue Guard Lindy Waters III got out to a hot start with 11 first quarter points and finished the night with 26 points (7-10 3FG). Oklahoma City Thunder had three players on assignment, led by guard Theo Maledon with 25 points and six rebounds.
