Windy City Drops Close One to Capital City
January 22, 2022 - NBA G League (G League)
Windy City Bulls News Release
The Windy City Bulls, presented by BMO, the NBA G League affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, came up just short against the Capital City Go-Go, losing 111-108 on the road Saturday night. Ethan Thompson paced the Bulls with 25 points on 8-for-13 shooting.
As the final score indicates, the Bulls and Go-Go were in a battle all night with eight lead changes and 10 ties.
Windy City's bench provided a spark to start the game, accounting for 17 of the Bulls' 25 first-quarter points - including seven from Bryce Alford. This helped give the Bulls a narrow 25-22 lead after the first 12 minutes.
The Bulls' strong bench production continued in the second quarter. This time, Daniel Oturu led the charge with eight second-quarter points off the pine. Windy City's second unit scored 18 points in the period, but the Go-Go outscored the Bulls 33-27 in the quarter to take a three-point lead into halftime.
Capital City maintained its strong play in the third quarter, but a dominant stretch from Chicago Bulls Assignment center Marko Simonović helped keep the Bulls within reach. Simonović had 11 third-quarter points on perfect 4-for-4 shooting to go along with three rebounds, but the Go-Go won the period 34-28.
Trailing 89-80 heading into the final 12 minutes, the Bulls clawed back to get within a point of the Go-Go with 5:39 left to play. Ethan Thompson was pivotal to the Bulls' comeback bid, scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter. But Windy City ultimately couldn't get over the hump, losing by three to Capital City.
Oturu finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season, while Simonović ended with 19 points and eight rebounds. Devon Dotson was the fourth Windy City player to reach double figures, scoring 15 points.
Seven Go-Go players ended with double-digit points, led by Jordan Goodwin's 20 points.
Windy City drops to 2-5 in the regular season after the loss, while Capital City sits at 5-2.
The Bulls and Go-Go will square off in Washington D.C. again on Monday, Jan. 24. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be streamed on NBAGLeague.com.
