 Salt Lake Bees

Sandoval and De Horta Combine for Shutout

May 25, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Salt Lake Bees News Release

Two Salt Lake pitchers combined on a three hit shutout, as the Bees blanked the Sacramento River Cats 1-0 on Friday night for their 12th win in their last 14 games.

Starter Patrick Sandoval (1-0) worked the first six innings and allowed just three hits with eight strikeouts and three walks. Only two runners advanced as far as second base against Sandoval. Adrian De Horta tossed the final three innings and did not give up a hit with five strikeouts and one walk. It is the first shutout of the season for the Salt Lake pitching staff and their first 1-0 win since May 16, 2017 at New Orleans.

The Bees scored their only run in the sixth when Matt Thaiss legged out an inside the park home run. Thaiss' drive to centerfield went off the wall and caromed past outfielder Mike Yastrzemski and by the time Sacramento could get the ball back into the infield, Thaiss had circled the bases with Salt Lake's second inside the park homer of the season and the 19th in franchise history. The Bees took three out of the four games in Sacramento and have now won three consecutive series.
