San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - Layne Ulmer tallied two goals and David LeNeveu stopped 38 shots to help carry the San Antonio Rampage to a 4-3 shootout victory over the Iowa Stars Sunday afternoon at the AT&T Center. Despite being outshot 41-16, the Rampage tallied all three goals on eight shots.
Iowa registered an early goal in the opening period to give the Stars a 1-0 advantage but the Rampage responded with two goals before the end of the period to take over the lead 2-1. After the Stars scored their first and only power-play goal, Ulmer answered with a power-play goal of his own at the 12:24 mark for the Rampage's first shot on goal. Mike Bishai and David Cornacchia were credited with assists on Ulmer's 13th goal of the season.
Cornacchia helped again on defenseman Dwayne Zinger's first goal of the season at the 15:47 mark as Tim Jackman fed the puck to Zinger who kicked it in.
Ulmer came through again extending the Rampage lead to 3-1 unassisted at the 13:05 mark. Iowa's Yan Stastny closed the gap 4:20 later with his 14th goal of the season.
Iowa, outshooting the Rampage 11-6, tied the game at 3-3 on a Shawn Belle goal, his first of the season, taking the game to overtime and eventually a shootout.
LeNeveu stopped all five of Iowa's shootout attempts as the Rampage's Steve Gainey was able to put a shot past Smith on the one-on-one challenge to give the Rampage their sixth shootout win of the season.
The Rampage (17-35-1-4) will host the Hamilton Bulldogs Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center.
