Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Rochester, NY - Marc-Antoine Pouliot scored the game-winning goal with one minute remaining in the third period as Hamilton defeated the Rochester Americans 6-4 on Sunday night at the Blue Cross Arena. The win was the Bulldogs fourth straight, which is a season high, and improves the team's record to 26-32-0-3.
Both Hamilton and Rochester scored three goals in the opening frame.
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead just 1:29 into the first period when Pierre Dagenais scored his fifth goal of the season. Corey Locke picked up the puck along the sideboards and passed it to Dagenais, who snapped a shot from the slot over the blocker of Americans goaltender Jean-Marc Pelletier.
Rochester then scored three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead. Just 40 seconds after Dagenais' goal, Kamil Kreps took a quick shot from the left face-off circle that beat Hamilton goaltender Olivier Michaud. At the 4:30 mark, Daniel Paille gave the Amerks the lead when he was left alone at the side of the Bulldogs net and then Clarke MacArthur potted his 12th marker of the season at 7:32 with Rochester on the power play to give the Americans a two-goal lead.
The Bulldogs then scored two power-play goals to tie the game at 3-3. Marc-Antoine Pouliot banged the puck in after he picked it out of a scramble in front of the Amerks net at 9:12 and Dagenais scored his second of the game at 17:23 when he one-timed a pass from Locke behind Pelletier.
Rochester out-shot Hamilton 12-10 in a scoreless second period.
Rochester took a 4-3 lead at the 7:48 mark of the third period when Chris Taylor fired a low snap shot from the right face-off circle past Michaud. The lead was short-lived as Hamilton tied the game just 39 seconds later when Andrei Kostitsyn skated out from behind the Amerks net and jammed the puck past Pelletier.
Pouliot then scored the winner when he buried the rebound of Kostitsyn's shot at 19:00. Maxim Lapierre added an empty net goal at 19:24 to seal the victory.
Michaud stopped 24 shots to earn his fourth straight victory, while Pelletier made 26 saves.
Hamilton was 2 for 7 on the power play while Rochester went 1 for 9.
The Bulldogs continue their seven game road trip when they travel to San Antonio on Tuesday, February 28 to face the Rampage. Game time is 8:00 p.m. The Bulldogs next home game is Friday, March 10th when the Manitoba Moose visit Copps Coliseum. Game time is 7:30 p.m. This game can be seen live on Hamilton's Cable 14.
