Griffins rally to defeat Hershey 4-3 Sunday
February 26, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
Donald MacLean scored two third period goals to add to his American Hockey League lead as the BEARS dropped a 4-3 decision in regulation to HERSHEY at GIANT Center.
The BEARS led 1-0 after one period when Boyd Gordon scored his 12th goal of the season at 10:44. In the second frame, Matt Ellis scored off a HERSHEY turnover 3:25 into the second period to tie the game before Eric Fehr gave the BEARS a 2-1 lead midway through period two. Clay Wilson then tied the game for Grand Rapids with a short-handed goal late in the second period, and the Griffins and BEARS entered the third period tied at two. MacLean then took over, scoring his 43rd and 44th goals of the season to give Grand Rapids a 4-2 lead. Boyd Kane scored at the 13:31 mark to pull within one, but HERSHEY could pull no closer. The loss was just the third of the season in regulation for the BEARS when they score the game's first goal. With the top four teams in the East division all losing in regulation Sunday, the BEARS remain just six points back of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for first place, and lead third place Bridgeport by nine with a game in hand.
The BEARS host the Toronto Marlies for the first time ever Wednesday night at GIANT Center. Face-off is at 7:00 p.m.
