San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO - The Rampage outshot their opponent for only the fifth time this season in a loss to the Grand Rapids Griffins Saturday night at the AT&T Center. With one-fourth of the season behind them, the Rampage own a 6-5-0-0 record at home and are 7-13-0-0 overall.

The Griffins were eager to avenge their 5-4 overtime loss in the Rampage home opener on Oct. 6 scoring two consecutive goals early in the game. Matt Hussey recorded a goal 1:33 into the initial period for the Griffins and two minutes later, Eric Himelfarb won the battle against Mike Morrison to grab a quick 2-0 lead. Before the end of the period, the Griffins were able to penetrate through Morrison once more with a shot from Kip Miller, a power play goal, to extend their lead 3-0 heading into the first intermission.

Morrison got the nod to start his second game between the pipes for the Rampage but allowed three goals on only eight shots through the first 20 minutes, enough for head coach Pat Conacher to pull him in favor of the rookie, Josh Tordjman, to start the second stanza.

With Tordjman in net, the Rampage found some new energy and were able to spring back to tie the game at three all.

Defenseman Keith Yandle earned his second goal in as many nights on the man-advantage with assists from former Griffins' forward, Don MacLean, and Rampage leading scorer, Yanick Lehoux. With just over eight minutes to go in the middle period, blue-liner Logan Stephenson took a shot from the left circle past Jimmy Howard into the back of the net with a pass from Tyson Nash and help from Travis Roche. Thirty-three seconds later Bill Thomas connected with Tyler Redenbach on a breakaway with a shot from the top of the left crease behind Howard and into the right corner of the net. The game-tying goal was Redenbach's first goal of the season.

Another 35 seconds elapsed and the Griffins were back on top when Darryl Bootland put the puck just inside the left post which proved to be the game-winner.

Tordjman was pulled with 1:11 left in regulation to add the extra attacker but the six-on-five was a struggle and allowed Miller to grab the puck for an easy empty-net goal with 10 seconds remaining insuring the win for the Griffins.

The Rampage host a back-to-back series this Thursday and Friday against the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center.
