
P-Bruins Fall to Pirates 4-1

Portland, ME - The Providence Bruins fell to the Portland Pirates 4-1 Saturday at the Cumberland County Civc Center. The P-Bruins got their lone goal from Pascal Pelletier.
After neither team was able to score in the first half of the opening period, the Pirates got on the board at the 11:10 mark. Ian Moran took a shot from the right point and P-Bruins netminder Hannu Toivonen made the save. The rebound came free in front and Pierre Parenteau was there to put the puck into the net. Curtis Glencross had the second assist. Portland opened up a 2-0 lead only 1:29 later. Petteri Wirtanen scored from the right face off circle with Bruno St. Jacques getting the lone assist. Providence cut the Pirates lead in half while on the power play at the 13:43 mark. Matt Lashoff took a shot from just inside the blueline and Pirates goaltender Michael Leighton made the save. The rebound came free and after Kris Versteeg unsuccessfully poked the puck past Leighton, Pelletier did. The Pirates scored once more in the third period to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission. At the 14:47 mark, Brian Salcido scored from the left face off circle with Colby Genoway and Zenon Konapka recording the assists.
In the second period, the Pirates scored the lone goal at the 3:41 mark, while on the power play. Tim Brent redirected the puck past Toivonen off a shot from Colby Genoway, with Zenon Konopka grabbing the second assist. Portland went into the second intermission with a 4-1 lead and went on to win by the same final.
While there was no scoring in the third period 239 PIM were handed out along with 23 fighting majors.
In net for the P-Bruins Toivonen stopped 29 of 33 shots, while Leighton made 18 saves for the Pirates. Providence was 1 for 5 on the power play, while Portland was 1 for 8 on the man advantage.
The P-Bruins wrap up the weekend on the road Sunday, November 26 against the Lowell Devils at 4:05 p.m. at the Tsongas Arena.
