Abbotsford Heat News Release

The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights have ten games against the Peoria Rivermen this season. With any luck, it won't take them all ten games to learn how to beat their foes from Illinois. The Knights lost their 10th straight game to the Rivermen, 3-2 on Saturday night at the Civic Auditorium. Peoria built a 3-0 lead and then held off a furious rally by the Knights.

Peoria got off to a quick start thanks to the powerplay. David Backes batted in a feed from Jon DiSalvatore at 10:06. Ryan Ramsay then converted the rebound of a shot by Charles Linglet to make it 2-0 at 14:02.

The second period opened with more Peoria offense. Trent Whitfield whipped a wrist shot over the glove hand of Curtis McElhinney for his team-leading tenth goal of the year.

McElhinney was replaced by Brent Krahn after allowing the third goal. Krahn stopped the final nine shots he faced.

Omaha finally managed to muster some offense of their own late in the second period as Brandon Prust scored his 3rd goal of the season. Andrei Taratukhin sent Dave Moss in against goalie Marek Schwarz. Moss was stopped but Prust followed and roofed the puck over a fallen Schwarz.

The Knights pressed in the third period, but it looked as if it would be scoreless until the Knights' Richie Regehr took a pass from Tim Ramholt at the blue line and fired a shot that beat Schwarz at 18:58 to pull the Knights to within one. The goal came with Krahn out for an extra attacker.

Taratukhin then got whistled for a goaltender interference penalty in the final minute, and the Knights could not muster any more scoring chances.

McElhinney took the loss, stopping 12 of 15 shots. All three Peoria wins this season have been by one goal.

Three Stars 1. Jon DiSalvatore (PEO) - Two assists; 2. Trent Whitfield (PEO) - One goal; 3. Dave Moss (OMA) - One assist
