Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators won their second game in as many nights, as they clawed their way back from a 4-1 first period deficit against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Binghamton scored four-unanswered goals before winning the shootout round before a crowd of 4,489 lively fans at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena

The Penguins jumped on the Senators quickly, as Connor James slipped one past goalie Jeff Glass only fifty-one seconds into the opening period.

Exactly three minutes later, the Penguins took advantage of Binghamton's first penalty of the night as Alexei Mikhnov buried a power-play marker past Glass.

The Penguins would tally two more markers, one each by Jean-Francois Jacques and Jonathan Filewich, before Binghamton's offense came to life.

Binghamton made a switch between the pipes, as Kelly Guard entered the game following the Filewich marker at 11:30 of the first period.

Binghamton immediately rallied, as center Bobby Robins buried an even-strength marker past Andrew Penner at 12:03 of the first stanza. Serge Payer and Grant Potulny assisted on the goal.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton wasn't done, as Mikhnov netted his second goal of the night to make it a 5-1 contest at 1:43 of the second period.

Winger Danny Bois sparked the Binghamton offensive explosion, as Bois beat Penguins defenseman Matt Carkner from the blue line, snapping a wrist shot from the right post past Penner.

Two minutes later Bois and Andrew Ebbett had a two-on-one break, as Ebbett found Bois on the right post again. Bois rifled a one-timer which bounced off of Penner and just over goal line to give Bois his second marker of the night.

With time winding down in the second stanza and the Senators on the power play, Josh Hennessy found a wide-open Charlie Cook in front of the Penguins goal. Hennessy snapped a pass from behind the cage, as Cook tapped it under Penner's leg to make it a 5-4 contest.

Center Grant Potulny delivered the game-tying goal, as the 26-year-old buried a wrist shot from the right face off circle as he was falling and on one knee.

After a scoreless overtime session, the Senators first three shooters; Jeff Heerema, Josh Hennessy and Ryan Vesce, all scored shootout markers.

Kelly Guard, who stopped 22 of 23 shots in relief tonight, allowed two shootout markers before stopping the Penguins last three attempts to secure the victory for Binghamton.

Bois (2+1=3) collected first star honors, while Kelly Guard earned third star honors for his performance between the pipes. Binghamton outshot Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 27-11 over the last two periods.

The Senators return to their home ice on Friday, Dec. 1, as they take on the Syracuse Crunch.
