Albany, NY - Shane Willis scored twice and Tyler Weiman made 19 saves to lead the Albany River Rats (9-10-1-0) to a 5-0 victory over the Lowell Devils (9-8-1-1) at the Pepsi Arena Saturday night.

The Rats took the 1-0 advantage early in the first with a tally by veteran Shane Willis, his fifth of the year, just 2:13 into the contest. Toward the end of the period Patrick Davis was assessed a five-minute major penalty for boarding. Meanwhile Devils RW Barry Tallackson and River Rats D Johnny Boychuk squared off on the same play and dropped the mitts, all with just over a minute to play in the first. The period ended with a 15-6 shot advantage for Albany.

The five-minute major power play would put the Devils in an insurmountable hole. Willis extended the lead with his second of the game just 46 seconds into the second, while Albany was still on the advantage. Just 32 seconds later Scott Kelman scored for Albany, and Matt Murley lit the lamp as well at 3:20. The goals gave the Rats three tallies during the power play, and a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Albany put another up on the board in the third period to account for the remainder of the game's offense. Meanwhile, the Devils were outshot 16-6 in the final frame, and 47-19 in the game. Parise suffered the loss, but made 43 saves, the second-highest save total in a game this season by a Devils goaltender.

The Devils return home to host the Providence Bruins in the first meeting of the season between the two clubs. Game time is 4:05 p.m. There is a post-game skate on the Tsongas Arena ice, free for everyone in attendance, courtesy of Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union. A limited number of skates are available for use for no extra charge, or fans may bring their own to the game.
