Salt Lake City Stars News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars returned to action on Wednesday night following the NBA All-Star break but came up short as the Iowa Wolves took control in the fourth quarter, on their way to a 116-109 victory at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
Brandon Sampson led the way for the Wolves, scoring nine of his team-high 25 points in the fourth quarter. All nine of Sampson's fourth quarter points came in the form of three-point makes, including a transition three that pushed the Wolves lead to 14 with 6:01 left to play.
Carsen Edwards delivered one of his most complete games of the season, leading the Stars with 34 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. For Edwards, Wednesday's performance marks his sixth game of 30 or more points since the start of the 2021-22 regular season.
The Stars, who only played seven players, stayed with the Wolves throughout the evening, using a 5-0 run in the final 24.1 seconds of the third quarter to cut the Wolves lead to 87-82 to start the final frame.
Attrition appeared to play a factor down the stretch for the Stars, as the visitors were baited into five turnovers and allowed the Wolves to shoot 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the floor and 55.6 percent (5-of-9) from deep.
Jared Wilson-Frame added 24 points to go along with seven assists for the Stars, while Yoeli Childs came off the bench with 14 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
Jordy Tshimanga contributed 16 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and three blocks for the Wolves and Melvin Frasier Jr., making his Wolves debut, added 12 points off the bench.
The two teams will meet again in Salt Lake City on Monday, Feb. 28 at Bruin Arena at Salt Lake Community College.
Monday night's rematch against the Wolves will be Teacher/Educator Appreciation Night, where the Stars will recognize and honor local teachers and educators for their dedication and service to the Wasatch Front Community.
Mondays are also Family Nights at Bruin Arena. Every Monday, a four-pack of tickets can be purchased for $20 for the best available seats, excluding the VIP Club and Courtside Club. Family Nights at Bruin Arena feature $2 hot dogs as well.
