Birmingham Squadron Make Roster Moves Ahead of Road Series with Santa Cruz
February 23, 2022 - NBA G League (G League)
Birmingham Squadron News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Squadron announced today several roster moves ahead of their two-game series on the road against the Santa Cruz Warriors. The teams will face off at Kaiser Permanente Arena on both Thursday (2/24) and Saturday night (2/26) at 9:00 p.m. CT.
Today the team executed a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder, acquiring the returning player rights to guard Chasson Randle in exchange for guard Jahmi'us Ramsey - a player that was claimed off of waivers today.
Randle (6-2, 185) is currently playing in the NBL with the New Zealand Breakers, where he has played in three games this season, averaging 9.7 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.7 assists. As part of the trade, if he chooses to join the G League, Birmingham holds the right to sign him.
Randle boasts a seven-year professional career, including experience in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers (2016-17), New York Knicks (2016-17), Washington Wizards (2018-19), Golden State Warriors (2019-20) and the Orlando Magic (2020-21). In 119 career NBA games, he averaged 5.7 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 16.1 minutes per game.
With guards Jared Harper and Justin Wright-Foreman away from the team on assignment with USA Basketball for World Cup qualifying, the team has also re-acquired guards Tra Holder and Sam Cunliffe. Holder (6-2, 180) played in 18 games with the Squadron this season between the Showcase and the regular season, averaging 4.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 37.8% from the field and 25.6% from behind the arc. Cunliffe has only played in one game with the Squadron this season (vs. RGV 2/12/22).
Squadron Forward Zylan Cheatham will also be absent in Santa Cruz as he is currently away from the team for personal reasons.
