Iowa Wolves Win First Game After All-Star Break

DES MOINES, Iowa - Balanced scoring carried the Iowa Wolves to a 116-109 win over the Salt Lake City Stars on Wednesday night at Wells Fargo Arena.

Iowa (9-7) had seven players score double figures led by Brandon Sampson who poured in a season-high 25 points off the bench. Sampson drilled five three-pointers and handed out a season-best five assists.

Salt Lake City (4-14) was paced by Carsen Edwards' game-high 34 points while Jared Wilson-Frame had 24 points behind six three-pointers.

Iowa broke open a close game late in the fourth quarter and then held off the Stars in the final quarter.

Jordy Tshimanga nearly recorded a double-double with 16 points and eight rebounds. Leandro Bolmaro, who Minnesota assigned to Iowa earlier in the day, had 15 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals. Isaiah Miller had 14 points off the bench while Melvin Frazier Jr., who was acquired this week from Oklahoma City, scored 12 points in his first game with the Wolves. Isaiah Briscoe with 13 points and Vincent Edwards with 10 points were the other double figure scorers.

Wednesday's meeting was the first of three-straight games between the two teams. The second game will be played Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. CT at Bruin Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.
