LINCOLN, NE - Lincoln Saltdogs right-handed pitcher Chris Thompson was named on Friday to the 2009 American Association Postseason All-Star Team. Thompson becomes the first Saltdogs player to make the league's postseason All-Star team since 2007.

Thompson enters Friday night's game with 30 saves on the season, which ties the American Association single-season record. Twenty of those saves have come in a Lincoln uniform, after the Saltdogs acquired him in a trade with El Paso on June 19. Chris needs two more saves to tie the franchise single-season record of 22, which was set in both 2001 and 2002 by Chris Weidert.

"Chris has been everything we could ask for," said Saltdogs manager Marty Scott. "We needed a shutdown closer after the Padres organization signed Carlos Guevara away, and Chris stepped in without missing a beat. It's a lot easier to manage a game when you know you have a ninth-inning guy you can depend on, and he's clearly deserving of this award."

Thompson becomes the fifth Saltdog to be named an American Association postseason All-Star, joining Pichi Balet and Lindsay Gulin (2006), and Josh Patton and Seth Pietsch (2007). Before 2006, Lincoln had eight players named to Northern League postseason All-Star teams between 2001 and 2005.
