Wichita Wingnuts News Release

Wichita, KS- Adam Cowart pitched seven strong innings and Greg Porter hit his 21st home run of the season, giving the Wingnuts a 3-0 win over the Grand Prairie Airhogs on Friday at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.

Porter's blast tied him with teammate Kelly Hunt for the league-lead and put Wichita up 2-0 in the first inning. The next batter, Dustan Mohr lined a single off the leg of Airhogs starter Matthew Green, who had to leave the game. Stephen MacFarland replaced Green and pitched 6 2/3 strong innings, allowing just one run. Wichita scored their final run on a bases loaded walk to Joe Muich in the third and that was all Cowart would need.

Cowart allowed seven singles, struck out three and walked none to pick up his eighth victory of the season. Doug Hurn and Justin Dowdy eached turned in a scoreless inning to close out the game. The Airhogs had two runners on base only three times all night and never advanced a baserunner past second. Porter and Mohr led the wingnuts, going 2-3 with a walk each.

The first place Wingnuts - winners of five straight - will host Grand Prairie again on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Derek Blacksher - a league-best 11-2 - will get the start. For tickets call the Wingnuts office at (316) 264-4625.
