El Paso Diablos News Release
El Paso, TX - The Fort Worth Cats scored early and often as they downed El Paso 10-4 on Friday night at Cohen Stadium. El Paso just didn't have the offense to keep up with the Cats who pounded out 17 hits against the Diablos and never trailed in the game.
The Cats started their scoring in the second inning by scoring two runs and never looked back after that. After El Paso cut the lead to 2-1 in the third inning Fort Worth took control of the game by scoring three in the fourth, before adding three in the seventh and two more in the eighth. They pounded Diablos' starter Bryan Villalona (1-6) who pitched into the seventh but allowed eight runs on 14 hits.
El Paso had 12 hits of their own only managed to score four runs. They were led by Kennard Bibbs who went 3-4 and scored a run in the game. Juan Camacho waited until his final at bat but was able to extend his hit streak to 21 games by going 1-4. Arnoldo Ponce went 2-4 with two RBI while Mike Provencher also turned in a good 2-4 performance.
El Paso scored one run in the third inning on a Jonathan Reynoso sacrifice fly to keep the game close at 2-1. Trailing 5-1 in the fifth inning an Eddy Rodriguez ground out brought in Gerardo Verastegui. El Paso looked to try and make a game out of it in the eighth inning when an Arnoldo Ponce two RBI single gave the Diablos hope, but that was as close as they would get.
The Diablos have two games remaining this season. Josh Nietz (5-3, 4.85) makes his final start of the 2009 season against the Cats' Ryan Riddle (6-7, 5.51). First pitch is slated for 7:05 and Fireworks will follow the game. Fans can listen along online at www.diablos.com.
