Sioux City Explorers News Release

St. Paul, MN...The Sioux City Explorers had their two-game winning streak broken Thursday as St. Paul handed the X's a 9-3 loss at Midway Stadium.

After the Explorers had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning on back-to-back doubles by Derek Schmerhorn and Boomer Berry, the Saints came back and scored three runs in the bottom of the third after two outs. A two-run single by Jeff Eure gave St. Paul the lead 4-2, a lead they never relinquished.

The Explorers had an opportunity to tie the game in the seventh on a single by Nick McCoola and a double by Brett Mieras with one out, but they were left stranded at second and third.

In the bottom of the seventh, St. Paul put the game away as they scored five runs off relief pitcher Kyle Frets to give the Saints a 9-2 lead.

Of the eight hits the Explorers had, no one had more than one hit while St. Paul was led by Jeff Eure with three hits and two RBI's while catcher Scott Knazek drove in four runs.

The second game of the four-game series with St. Paul will be played Friday at Midway Stadium starting at 7:05.
