El Paso Diablos News Release

El Paso, TX - In what was supposed to be a meaningless game, the El Paso Diablos ended the night jumping as a team at home plate after a Jonathan Reynoso sacrifice fly gave the Diablos a 8-7 walk off victory over the Fort Worth Cats at Cohen Stadium on Thursday night. It is the sixth walk off victory this season for the Diablos, who were put in the situation only after a great comeback by the Cats.

El Paso held a 4-0 lead by scoring single runs in the first, second, third and fifth innings before the Cats would come back. Fort Worth cut the lead to 4-3 with a three run seventh inning. El Paso pushed their lead right back to four with a three run seventh of their own. The Cats made it a one run game once again by plating three runs for the second straight inning in the eighth. El Paso made two errors to start the ninth inning which helped the Cats to plate the game tying run on a John Allen RBI single. They went on to load up the bases in the ninth before Mike Cervera struck out Kelley Gulledge to end the inning. In the bottom of the ninth two straight singles put runners at the corners and an intentional walk of Kennard Bibbs loaded up the bases for Reynoso to sent a fly ball into left that brought home Eddy Rodriguez to win the game.

There was plenty of hitting to go around as El Paso out hit the Cats 15-13 with Juan Camacho and Jeff Vincent leading the way. Camacho extended his hit streak to 20 straight games by going 3-4 with a double and an RBI while Vincent turned in his second straight three hit game going 3-4 with a double and two RBI. Kennard Bibbs and Jonathan Reynoso both ended the night with two hits including a double, and Eddy Rodriguez had two hits including his eighth home run of the season. Rodriguez now leads all catchers in the league in home runs.

Clegg Snipes made a strong start for El Paso and left with a chance to win, but the bull pen could not hold the lead. Snipes held the Cats scoreless through six innings before they finally got to him with two outs in the sixth to end his night. He allowed three runs on seven hits before giving way to the bull pen who allowed four runs to tie the game. Mike Cervera (2-1) came on for the four out save, but allowed one unearned run in the ninth and was credited with the win.

The Diablos have three games remaining this season and they send Bryan Villalona (1-5. 8.51) to the mound on Friday. He will be opposed by Lee Gwaltney (5-2, 4.00) for the Cats. First pitch is slated for 7:05 and Friday Night Fireworks will follow the game. Fans can listen along online at www.diablos.com.
