Sioux Falls, SD - One night after prevailing 2-1 in a pitcher's duel the Sioux Falls Canaries (19-27) won a slugfest, triumphing 13-10 over the Lincoln Saltdogs (25-21) in front of 3,919 on Friday night at Sioux Falls Stadium. Beau Torbert led the way going 2-for-4 with two home runs and seven RBI.

The Saltdogs loss, coupled with a 3-0 win by the Wichita Wingnuts over the Grand Prairie AirHogs, gives Wichita sole possession of first place in the second half with two games left in the season.

Lincoln scored right away in the top of the first inning. Josh Burrus and Albenis Machado started the game with back-to-back walks. After Canaries starting pitcher Pat Mahomes battled back with back-to-back strikeouts of Phil Hawke and Argelis Nunez, Rafael Alvarez singled to right field to score Burrus and give the Saltdogs a 1-0 lead.

The Canaries roared back in the bottom of the first. Joe Anthonsen reached on an error by Lincoln second baseman Shea McFeely and Tim Hutting followed with a single. In his first at-bat since hitting a game-winning home run in the 10th inning on Thursday, Beau Torbert hit a three-run homer to put the Canaries ahead of Lincoln again, 3-1. Later in the inning, Patrick Reilly reached on an infield single, stole second base, and scored on a single by Trevor Lawhorn. After one inning the Canaries led, 4-1.

Cody Haerther reached on an infield single, but left the game with an injury. Kyle Eveland came in to pinch run and scored on a Cory Harris single to put the Birds back ahead, 5-4. Reilly followed with his seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot that gave the Canaries a 7-4 lead.

Lincoln stormed back with the next six runs. In the fifth inning, Nunez doubled and got to third on a single by Alvarez. Shawn McGill grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed Nunez to score and cut the Birds lead to two, 7-5. Gavin Dickey then hit his first home run of the season, and the two-run shot that tied the game, 7-7. Shea McFeely followed with a home run, his fifth of the season, and the Saltdogs grabbed an 8-7 lead. Two more runs in the sixth inning, including one on the second home run of the night by Nunez, put the Saltdogs up by three, 10-7.

The Canaries came back in the bottom of the sixth. The bases were loaded on a pair of singles by Joe Dempsey and Tim Hutting, and a walk to Eveland. Torbert then launched his second home run of the night, a grand slam over the centerfield wall. Torbert's blast put the Canaries on top 11-10. The Birds scored two more in the eighth inning to prevail, 13-10.

Patrick Lawler (4-2) pitched one inning of relief to get the win for the Canaries. Justin Knoff (0-1) surrendered the grand slam to Torbert in taking his first loss since joining the Lincoln Saltdogs. Aaron Cotter pitched a perfect ninth inning to secure his ninth save of the season.
