Cats rally late but fall 8-7

El Paso -Jonathan Reynoso's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning brought home the winning run as the Diablos edged the Cats 8-7 on Thursday night at Cohen Stadium.

The Diablos win came after the Cats had rallied to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning on a John Allen RBI single scoring Cameron Blair. But the Cats left the bases loaded in the ninth with the go-ahead run standing at third.

Fort Worth trailed by four runs at two different points in the game as El Paso jumped on top early on.

In the first inning with one out, Reynoso doubled. One batter later, Juan Camacho singled Reynoso home for a 1-0 Diablos lead. They added a run in the second as catcher Eddy Rodriguez homered to center field, his eighth of the season for a 2-0 advantage.

In the third, the Diablos scored an unearned run as Arnoldo Ponce reached on an error to start the inning. One batter later, Vincent singled to center to make it 3-0. The Diablos got their fourth run in the fifth as Reynoso led off with a single, stole second went to third on a throwing error and scored on a Ponce RBI groundout.

The Cats rallied and pulled to within a run as they got three runs in the seventh on an RBI single by Spenser Dennis and a two-run single by Brian Fryer.

But the Diablos answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh for a 7-4 advantage. In tha tinning, they got an RBI double by Jeff Vincent a double steal with David Washington scoring a run. The next batter Mike Provencher reached on an error permitting the third run of the inning and the seventh run of the game to come home.

Fort Worth once again climbed to within a run at 7-6 with another three-run inning in the eighth on an RBI double by Ryan Patterson and a two-run single by Gulledge.

Mike Cervera (2-1), who was charged with a blown save in the ninth, got the win after allowing a run on two hits in 1 1/3 innings. Ryan Trytten, who permitted the game-winning run in the ninth, suffered the loss to drop to 2-2 on the season.

The Cats committed four errors in the game leading to two unearned runs.

The series continues on Friday night at 8:05 p.m. with Lee Gwaltney going to the hill for his final start fo the season. He will be opposed by Bryan Villalona for El Paso.
