Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs went on the road to win Friday, beating the Shreveport-Bossier Captains 6-2 at Fair Grounds Field. Lincoln improves to 12-8 on the second half of the season.
Rookie Tim Brown (3-1) pitched a strong game for Lincoln, allowing just two runs on nine hits in seven innings of work. Brown actually took a shutout into the eighth inning, striking out three along the way, before giving up back-to-back singles to open the eighth. Brown has only allowed three runs over 13 innings in his two starts this season.
The Saltdogs struck quickly, scoring twice in the top of the first. Lincoln put together four straight singles with one out, including an RBI single by Pichi Balet, to take a 1-0 lead. Shawn McGill added a sacrifice fly in the frame to double the Dogs' lead. Lincoln added two more in the fifth inning, on a Phil Hawke RBI single and a run-scoring wild pitch by Luke Massetti (6-2). Shreveport-Bossier cut the lead to 4-2 with a pair of runs in the eighth, but the Saltdogs got an RBI single from Gavin Dickey and a bases-loaded walk to McGill in the ninth to set the final margin.
Hawke ended the night 5-for-5 with five singles, three runs scored and an RBI. Albenis Machado went 2-for-4 with three runs scored, and McGill wound up 1-for-3 with two RBI.
The two squads play game two of their three-game series Saturday night at 7:05. Lefty Zac Cline will make the start for Lincoln.
