Pelicans Shut Out Cats 6-0

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Pelicans scored four times in the second inning and Dane DeValk threw seven shutout innings as Pensacola defeated Fort Worth 6-0 on Friday night at Pelican Park. The loss was the Cats' third straight. It was the third time the Cats have been blanked this season.

Pensacola scored in the first on an RBI ground out by Chase Burch. They would break the game open in the second.

Lou Palmisano led off with a walk and one-out later Adam Darby singled to right. Kevin Reynolds drove home a run with an RBI double, followed by a two-run double by Francisco Leandro for a 4-0 lead.

They would add another run with two outs in the fifth as Reynolds stroked an RBI single to right, scoring Palmisano for a 6-0 Pensacola lead.

DeValk, coming off a complete-game shutout of Sioux City in his last start, allowed just four hits in seven innings of work. He struck out four and walked two for his fifth win of the season.

Cats' starting pitcher Matt Gibbs (1-3) took the loss as he allowed six runs on 14 hits in seven innings.

Reynolds, playing in only his eighth game in a Pelicans uniform, was 4-for-5 with two runs batted in batting out of the leadoff spot for Pensacola.

The series continues on Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. as left-hander Ryan Riddle goes to the mound for the Cats.
