X's Drop Another Close One to Lincoln

Lincoln, NE.....For the third time in four games, the Sioux City Explorers lost a one-run game to Lincoln. Thursday, in the final game of the series, the Saltdogs handed the Explorers a 5-4 loss.

The Explorers had taken a 2-0 lead in the first inning scoring one run on a RBI double by Alex Llanos. Later in the inning Llanos would score on a throwing error by Lincoln catcher Shawn McGill.

Lincoln bounced back and scored in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI ground out by Pichi Balet to cut the Explorers lead to 2-1. However, the Explorers took a 3-1 lead in the second inning on a lead off home run by Brett Mieras, his career first.

The Explorers led 3-1 until the fourth inning when Lincoln scored three times to lead 4-3, but the X's tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth on a RBI double by Jason Colson.

The deciding run for Lincoln scored in the sixth inning when Shawn McGill led off the inning with a double and later scored on a wild pitch by David Trahan to give the Saltdogs a 5-4 lead.

The victory kept Lincoln in first place in the American Association North while the Explorers lost their eighth straight, tying their longest losing streak of the season.

The Explorers will start a three-game series with St. Paul Friday at Lewis and Clark Park. Game time will be 7:05.
