Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - The Lincoln Saltdogs rallied to win another wild game in St. Paul on Saturday, beating the Saints 10-8. Lincoln improves to 47-42 on the season, 18-23 in the second half. The Saltdogs maintain their one-game lead over Sioux City in the wild card race with seven games left in the season.

As they have several times this season, the two teams went back and forth for most of the night. Lincoln entered the sixth inning trailing 5-4, but put together three straight hits to chase St. Paul starter Jacob Schmidt (8-7), with Gavin Dickey driving in the tying run with a single. One out later, Juan Richardson hit an RBI single to put the Saltdogs ahead 7-5. A critical error made it 7-5, and Juan Camacho followed with a two-run double to increase the lead to four. Phil Hawke capped the six-run inning with an RBI single, giving Lincoln a 10-5 advantage.

St. Paul refused to go quietly, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning-two of which were unearned-to pull within 10-8. The Lincoln bullpen, however, made sure the Saints would get no closer. Brendon Smith (3-0), Sean Potter, Adam Daniels and Chris Thompson combined to shut out the Saints over the final three innings, with Thompson earning his 19th save.

The Saints opened the scoring with a run in the first, but Lincoln tied it in the second inning on Hawke's RBI double. The Saltdogs got RBIs from Camacho and Brandon Jones in the third inning to lead 3-1, but St. Paul scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the third to tie it at three. Dickey hit an RBI single in the fourth to put Lincoln back in front, but St. Paul scored two more in the fifth to briefly earn a 5-4 lead. Each team scored four unearned runs in the game, and the two teams combined for 27 hits and five errors in the contest.

Camacho ended the night 4-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. Hawke, playing in his first game back from the disabled list, went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a pair of walks. Dickey, Rafael Alvarez, Argelis Nunez and Pat Trettel also had two-hit nights for Lincoln.

The two teams play the rubber match of their three-game series Sunday afternoon at 1:05. Right-hander Jim Paduch is scheduled to take the mound for the Saltdogs.
