ST. PAUL, MN (August 22, 2010) - The St. Paul Saints may have saved their season and for the second Sunday in a row they took advantage of control problems from the Lincoln Saltdogs to come from behind and win 10-6 at Midway Stadium in front of 4,992.

With the Saints trailing 6-4 in the bottom of the eighth, left-handed reliever Adam Daniels could never find the strike zone. He walked the first four batters he faced as the Saints pulled to within 6-5. After a strike out of Steve Mays, Josh Alley lined a single to left tying the game at six and chasing Daniels for another left-hander, Nolan Chestnut. Hector Bernal came through for the third time on the day singling home two-runs and Alley scored on an errant throw from right fielder Rafael Alvarez that sent Bernal to third. Ole Sheldon singled home Bernal to give the Saints the four run cushion.

The Saints needed to come back because the Saltdogs put up four runs in the seventh to take a 6-4 lead. With the Saints up 4-2 Pat Trettel hit a solo homer to left, his ninth of the season to make it 4-3. Gavin Dickey singled and Rafael Alvarez walked to put runners at first and second. Saints starter Zach Peterson got Juan Richardson to line out and then was pulled from the game for reliever Joe D'Alessandro. A single to center by Argelis Nunez loaded the bases and Juan Camacho singled home two to give the Saltdogs a 5-4 lead. Two batters later Brandon Jones slugged an RBI double to make it 6-4.

The Saints jumped out to an early 4-0 over the first four innings. In the first Josh Alley walked and took second on an errant pickoff attempt. Ole Sheldon walked and Brent Krause was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Josh Burrus forced in a run with a walk to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.

In the second Steve Butler dropped a single to center and with two outs Bernal tripled him home for a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth Bernal came through again. Gerard Haran led off with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brandon Carter. With two outs Alley walked and Bernal doubled them both home for a 4-0 lead. Bernal finished the day 3-5, a homer shy of the cycle, five RBI and a run scored.

The Saints welcome in the Sioux City Explorers for a three game series beginning Monday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send LHP Ryan Morse (5-4, 5.99) to the mound against Explorers RHP Mikael Ryder (9-6, 4.57). It's "We Defend the Blanket" Night. The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network (check saintsbaseball.com for the channel in your area) and heard on Relevant Radio 1330.
