Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN - The Saltdogs added a potent bat for the stretch run, acquiring 3B Bryan Pounds in a trade with Sioux City for INF Jeff Squier Saturday.
Pounds, who played with Lincoln at the end of the 2012 season, ranks fifth in the American Association with 27 doubles.
The 27-year old from Houston is hitting .272 with five home runs and 37 RBI, and is expected to be the starting third baseman for the Saltdogs.
Sluggers Curt Smith and Ian Gac will share first base and designated hitter duties for Lincoln during the playoff chase.
Pounds reached as high as Triple-A Toledo in 2011 and 2012 while in the Detroit Tigers organization.
Squier was hitting .122 with one home run and seven RBI, serving mostly as a defensive specialist for the Saltdogs.
Lincoln hosts Gary SouthShore Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The 'Dogs enter the second game of the series 4 1/2 games behind the RailCats in the wildcard standings.
